There may be some hypocrisy within the individuals & associations who demand the federal government to force cattlemen to fund the Beef Checkoff while simultaneously demanding we have a global market in which they use cattlemen’s dollars in an attempt to penetrate those markets overseas.
It seems as though their appreciation for free market capitalism isn't as flattering to them when it comes to funding the federally mandated checkoff funds in which funds their marketing tactics. How can one truly claim possessing a free market mindset while also supporting the government having artificial influence over the market? Also while keeping associations like NCBA, KLA, MCA etc. in control of the bank account.
I am just as in favor of letting the free market course correct as the next capitalist & leave the government out of it. No to The Beef Checkoff. For example, I market some of my product locally & only domestically. Why in the hell should my money be stolen from me to leave in the hands of the packers influence, who are paying members the biggest checkoff contractor like NCBA? How I see the Beef Checkoff is how I look at most bureaucratic government departments, agency, or administrations; once funded by gov, always funded by gov. No to the deceptive use of "Product of USA" on foreign beef, & even no to MCOOL. I have changed overtime to release my grip on MCOOL. It does not fall inline with my perception of how much government power there should be. Limited federal government does not include mandating regulations. I support VCOOL (Voluntary Country of Origin Labeling). NO to crop subsidies!
Please don't forget just as much as this hurts the producer, this hurts the consumer. Watch out next time you're feeling patriotic & are looking for an USA product.
Quit robbing Peter to pay Paul. Let Peter keep his money.
